Primate Rescue Center Earns Better Business Bureau Seal of Approval

NICHOLASVILLE, KENTUCKY - October 1, 2007 – The Primate Rescue Center (PRC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving conditions for monkeys and apes nationwide, announced today that it has met the Standards for Charity Accountability of the Better Business Bureau (BBB). As a result, the PRC has earned the right to feature the BBB Wise Giving Alliance Seal on its website and printed materials.

“We have an obligation to be responsible stewards of the funds entrusted to us by our donors,” said April D. Truitt, PRC executive director. “Earning and displaying the BBB seal gives us an efficient way of demonstrating that our commitment to ensure our standards of excellence, integrity and accountability are applied to all aspects of our operations.”

The Standards for Charity Accountability were developed to assist donors in making sound giving decisions and to foster public confidence in charitable organizations. The right to display the seal required the PRC to endure a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, the nation’s most experienced charity evaluator. It involved intense scrutiny of the PRC’s finances, governance, effectiveness, solicitations and informational materials.

“National charities that display the BBB Wise Giving Alliance seal can do so with pride,” says Art Taylor, president and chief executive officer of the Alliance. “Not only are they attesting to their organizations’ adherence to sound standards, they are helping to increase donor confidence and strengthen public trust in giving.”

About the Primate Rescue Center:

The Primate Rescue Center is a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of monkeys and apes - both in captivity and in their native habitats. Since 1987, PRC volunteers and staff have worked tirelessly to rescue and relocate over 250 monkeys and apes in need. The most needy of these animals enjoy a safe haven and superior lifetime care at the 30-acre PRC sanctuary in the bluegrass region of Kentucky. In collaboration with other sanctuaries and primate advocacy organizations, the PRC looks forward to the day when monkeys and apes are no longer freely traded and exploited, and sanctuaries are no longer needed.
