Pet Monkey Suspected of Biting 10-year-old Girl

Erika Fleury April 26, 2015

A pet monkey is suspected of biting 10-year-old Kylie Corwin’s ankles Wednesday afternoon in Dexter, Iowa.

“He seems nice, but when he got mad he just attacked me,” Kylie said.

Kylie said she was hanging out with the homeowner’s children when they started banging on the 5-year-old capuchin monkey’s cage in the garage.

Peanut, a capuchin monkey living at the PRC, lived as a pet like the monkey in this story.

“He got mad and he broke out of his cage and came behind me and bit me,” Kylie said. “And then  I was going, he went through the back and I was going up the stairs and he came up and bit me again on this leg.”

Kylie received eight stitches and a tetanus shot.

The monkey’s owner, Holly Russell, wasn’t home when the monkey attacked. She said Kylie was trespassing and didn’t leave when she asked.

Kylie’s mother, Anna Marlow, said it was an unfortunate accident.

“I feel horrible for them,” Marlow said. “You know they love the monkey. At the same time, you know a child is more important than a monkey.”

Marlow said she is thankful her daughter wasn’t seriously injured.

“She’s very resilient,” Marlow said. “She bounces back. It takes more than a little bite to stop Kylie, that’s for sure.”
