Opal is a female long-tailed macaque who was rescued from a pet situation in Indiana in 2018 at the age of 7. She spent a short time at Peaceable Primate Sanctuary before being transferred to the Primate Rescue Center where she will live out her life in sanctuary with others of her kind.

Upon arrival, Opal had quite a lot of weight to lose after living years in a human home with a very unhealthy diet. Luckily, after some positive life changes at the PRC with a healthy diet and more physical activity Opal is on the road to recovery. She is climbing well, eating delicious fruits and vegetables, relaxing into her new routine and environment, and has even made a few new friends. Opal was initially introduced to fellow long-tailed macaque Jax, and these two loved to spend time grooming, snuggling, and sharing food at mealtime. Later, long-tailed macaque Zoe was introduced to this pair, and the three lived together until Jax’s passing in March 2020. Now, Opal and Zoe are happy and content to spend their days together and are open to the possibility of adding another companion to their group. Opal is a very sweet monkey who loves to lip-smack happily at her caregivers, volunteers, and interns, and is sure to make many friends along the way as she lives her life in this peaceful valley.
