Soda Barbary macaque passed away on July 27, 2015. We suspect that he experienced a sudden event such as a heart attack or stroke that was undetectable and unpredictable. Soda was one of four Barbary macaques rescued from the Las Vegas Zoo in October 2013, after having spent years living with no medical care and an improper diet. Soda was a very handsome, sweet boy who often lip smacked to the care staff when he was excited about his food. He spent his last days living with Barbary macaque Shatar and seemed very happy to have finally found a safe home where he could be free to sit in the sun, forage for food, and groom his longtime friend. We are so sad to lose Soda, but glad that we were able to give him some peace in the last years of his life.
